Nidan in coordination with PLAN organized a half-day consultation on newly enacted Right to Education and concept of Learn without Fear. Various NGO representatives, state level bureaucrats and media personnel participated in this consultation. Among all, most valuable participation has been from children who shared their views and suggestion in order to concretize the concept of Learn without Fear at the field level. During the consultation three panel discussions were held. Children are central focus of this whole exercise, the very first panel discussion involved participation of children from various districts of Bihar. Children shared their views and expectations on Right to Education and Learn without Fear. These children who are student of various Government schools do understand that how much education is essential for progression of a child towards a healthy and aware citizen. With their day to day experiences they shared what are the common limitations of Govt. schools and present education system. They not only shared the problems and shortcomings of state runned schools, rather also suggested innovative ideas to overcome these limitations.
In the second panel discussion, Govt. officials discussed progress towards Right to Education, various steps taken by various concerned departments, what are the future challenges and how few issues remain to be unresolved endangering the actual implementation of this initiative. In the third round of panel discussion civil society representatives expressed their resolve to make all possible efforts to bring Right to Education and concept of fearless learning into practice. They demanded Govt. to make more serious efforts to bring this historical initiative into practice and offered all possible assistance in order to do so. |
