Minimum compensation of Rs 5,00,000 (deformity and death).

Life insurance provides financial assistance to the nominee of the retired insured person. For ensuring the security for dependents and workers themselves: entitling a compensation of Rs 5,00,000 for deformity and death.

India has a workforce of 501 million registered, as of 2020, about 48,000 workers die in India due to occupational accidents of which 38 fatal accidents take place every day in the construction sector, and only 20 percent of them are covered under the existing health and safety legal framework. WHO published an article on snakebites envenoming over the past two decades, reporting a death rate of 58,000/year 70% of deaths during the period of 2001 -2014 are from agricultural communities. These are some of the relevant identified risks while working in the fields. Garbage workers, Construction workers, Welders, Mining workers, and all forms of other informal workers.

NIDAN  on behalf of informal workers’ demands a minimum insurance scheme of Rs. 500000/- in reference to BOCW, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. (Accident Assistance Scheme registered beneficiary construction workers are provided one-time assistance of Rs. 5,00,000/-(Rs. Five Lacs only) in case of accidental death and Rs. 3,00,000 (Rs. three lacs only) in case of permanent complete disability/physical disability and Rs. 2,00,000 (Rs. two lacs only) in case of permanent partial disability/physical disability, by the board.)

This demand can be implemented with some alteration in Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)

  • Ensuring the entitlement to continue as a beneficiary after attaining the age of 60.
  • Expansion of natural accidents in the coverage of the scheme.
  • Provision of Compensation for Death/Deformity as an entitlement to cover the informal workers.
