About the Project

Arogya World aligns with NIDAN’s goal to create awareness among the Street Food Vendors on healthy cooking and nutrition to reduce the risk of NCDs.  With the aim to empower the street food vendors to cook healthy for building a healthy nation. The program is to educate street food vendors on the importance of nutrition and eating right, through an activity-based on-ground training program.

MyThali addresses the most common challenge to healthy eating: people are confused about what to eat and in what quantities. It teaches people about the importance of Poshan (good nutrition) and Portion. MyThali aligns with the Government of India’s nutrition program “Poshan Abhiyaan” and SDG goals. In continuation to ongoing activities and efforts to make Indians lead a healthy lifestyle, we plan to reach out to street food vendors in Bangalore and make them aware of the importance of healthy eating, so that as food vendors they can cook and serve healthy food and change the way India eats.

Objective of this program:

To imbibe knowledge on the basics of nutrition, risk factors of non-communicable diseases and ways to reduce the risk by adapting healthy cooking practices among street food vendors so that they learn to prepare healthy yet delicious food for their customers.

Specific Objectives:

  • To assess the knowledge and practices of the street food vendors towards healthy cooking through a questionnaire.
  • To develop and implement MyThali modules on the importance of nutrition for good health, health implications on consuming unhealthy food (risk factors of non-communicable diseases) and improving cooking practices to reduce the risk of NCDs.
  • To train and build capacity of 500 street food vendors in Bangalore on improving the nutritional quality of food to reduce the risk of NCDs.
