NIDAN Celebrates 30 Years of Empowering Communities
On 13 July 2026, NIDAN celebrated 30 years of dedicated work towards improving the lives and livelihoods of informal workers, women, children and vulnerable communities. Since its establishment in 1996, NIDAN has remained committed to building community institutions, strengthening access to rights and social protection, and creating opportunities for greater dignity, inclusion and self-reliance.
The anniversary was celebrated in Patna with NIDAN colleagues and representatives of civil society organisations working on issues concerning very young children and vulnerable communities. The gathering provided an opportunity not only to celebrate NIDAN’s journey since its founding in 1996, but also to reflect on the partnerships, community institutions and movements that have helped strengthen the rights, dignity and opportunities of informal workers and their families.
Over the past three decades, NIDAN’s work has evolved across a wide range of areas, including livelihoods, social protection, women’s empowerment, early childhood care, community mobilisation and support to informal workers. At the centre of this journey has remained a simple principle: meaningful change is strongest when communities themselves participate in shaping the solutions that affect their lives.
The 30-year celebration was also a moment to recognise the contribution of colleagues, community leaders, partner organisations and supporters who have walked with NIDAN through different stages of its journey. Their experience and commitment have enabled the organisation to remain rooted in communities while continuing to engage with wider policy and institutional processes.
As NIDAN enters its fourth decade, the occasion was both a celebration of what has been achieved and a reminder of the work that remains ahead. The organisation looks forward to continuing its efforts to strengthen the lives and livelihoods of informal workers and to ensure that children and families from low-income communities have access to greater opportunities, dignity and support.
Thirty years of NIDAN is not only a milestone- it is a celebration of the people, partnerships and communities that have made this journey possible.
