The project aimed to improve adult literacy through the establishment of Vidya Centers in identified low-literacy villages and wards. NIDAN played a crucial role in implementing this initiative by conducting door-to-door surveys to identify non-literate adults and Akshar Sathi (local teachers) who met specific criteria, such as being at least 18 years old, having completed 10th grade, and ideally having access to a smartphone. NIDAN also ensured the setup of literacy centers, ensuring they met the required standards, and handled all local approvals for their establishment. The Akshar Sathi were trained and assigned to teach adult learners, using a structured methodology developed by RILM. Regular monitoring, attendance tracking, and session feedback were conducted to ensure progress. NIDAN also facilitated examinations for adult learners upon course completion and managed all related data on the RILM portal/app. Ultimately, the project succeeded in empowering adults by improving their literacy levels, providing access to quality education, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities.
