Under the Madhubani Project, a biogas awareness and capacity-building session was organised with members of Udaan CLF, Belwa, Kishanganj. The session aimed to build understanding around clean and sustainable energy solutions while strengthening women’s role in community-led development.
During the interaction, participants were informed about the key benefits of biogas plants, including access to clean cooking fuel, reduction in household energy expenses, decreased dependence on firewood and LPG, and positive impacts on health and the environment. The use of biogas slurry as organic manure was also discussed, highlighting its potential to improve soil fertility and reduce agricultural input costs.
The session included detailed discussions on the availability and regular collection of cattle dung through household and community-level arrangements. Practical guidance was provided on the proper operation, routine maintenance, and safety measures required to ensure the efficient and long-term functioning of biogas plants.
This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Madhubani Project, which focuses on transforming seven villages in the Babubarhi block of Madhubani district through a holistic, community-led development approach. By promoting sustainable energy practices alongside livelihood enhancement, environmental responsibility, and women’s leadership, the project continues to work towards building resilient, self-reliant, and environmentally sustainable villages.
