The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, in partnership with NIDAN and Jeevika, is supporting a self-help group (SHG)-led micro food enterprise under the Sangam CLF in Mushahari, Muzaffarpur.
The initiative focuses on developing, producing, branding, and marketing a line of fortified packaged snacks under the brand PoshTara, positioned within the “healthy snacks” category. The product line includes BiteRight and GupShup, developed by National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management.
These snacks are designed to be minimally processed, nutritious, and affordable. They are fortified with iron and folic acid, and made using locally sourced ingredients such as millets (ragi and bajra), grains, pulses, peanuts, and nutrient-rich additions like dates, curry leaves, and digestive condiments. Importantly, they are free from refined sugar, palm oil, chemical preservatives, and artificial additives.
By combining nutrition with local sourcing and women-led entrepreneurship, the initiative aims to create healthier food choices while strengthening rural livelihoods.
